It’s a heartwarming sight to see a faithful pup finally getting back together with his beloved owner, despite being separated for more than two years. The incredible journey of their reunion is certainly one for the books.
Kameroun Mares found solace in the company of a husky during a difficult time in her life. She was undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she met the young dog in 2013. Despite chemotherapy, Mares decided to adopt the faithful canine and named him Semper Fidelis, which means “Always faithful” in Latin. Though Semper stayed by her side through thick and thin, something came between them, causing heartbreak for Mares.
In 2016, Mares had to travel to California from Florida for additional medical treatments. Her roommate at that time agreed to take care of Semper, but Mares was shocked when she received a call that Semper was missing. When she returned, she searched everywhere for him, but couldn’t find him. Even when she moved to California later that year, she continued looking for him by contacting shelters in Florida and posting information about him on various social media platforms but didn’t receive any response. Mares became extremely worried about Semper’s safety and missed him terribly. So, she enlisted the help of a private investigator, Ana Campos, to locate him. Mares had previously registered Semper’s microchip with AKC Reunite, and after someone suggested she check the chip again, she found out that a woman had added her name to the chip a year earlier, on April 11, 2016.
It turns out that the microchip company that Semper was registered with didn’t bother to check if he already had an owner. As a result, someone put Semper up for sale on Craigslist for $200, which is why Mares had trouble finding him despite all his efforts. However, the good news is that Semper has finally been reunited with Mares and both of them were overjoyed. Mares couldn’t help but cry tears of happiness, while Semper couldn’t contain his excitement and kept bouncing around.
Campos expressed that being a part of the reunion and being there to witness it was an incredible experience and one of the greatest days of their life.
Semper is adjusting to his new family quite nicely, enjoying leisurely strolls in his California neighborhood while getting to know the area with Mares, who is thankfully cancer-free. According to Mares, Semper still remembers the commands and tricks he taught him and has a special talent for locating his home at Mares’ request. All in all, Semper is thriving in his new environment.
Mares expressed that she views him as a part of herself and her heart, adding that she is overjoyed to have him back in her embrace.
